Following the intergalactic battles of “Laser Samurai” comes “Countdown To Death.” Uncertain times call for clear words. Taskforce Toxicator packs these into razor-sharp thrash metal songs. In the three years since the release of their debut album, the band has sharpened their songwriting and crafted 12 wrecking balls that are sure to set every thrash fan’s heart racing. The previously released singles “The Necromancer,” “Die Alone,” and “Intergalactic War” already gave a taste of what’s to come. “This time around, we took great care to trim every last bit of unnecessary lengths within the songs, to break them down to their core,” reports guitarist Dominik Rothe. “And we didn’t want to just make ‘Laser Samurai 2’. We place a lot of importance on always trying something new.”

Accordingly, “Countdown To Death” has a few surprises in store. While the straightforward title track, with its gang shout chorus, emphasizes the band’s crossover thrash roots, the groovy “End Of All Life” and the sinister “Midnight Mass” strike a new note. The latter tells a spine-chilling horror story, accompanied by atmospheric guitar melodies. The lyrics deal with the temptation to succumb to preachers of simple solutions in the face of complex problems - which ends in a bloodbath. Meanwhile, in the speed-metal banger “Revived Scum”—which has already proven itself live— Taskforce Toxicator give the middle finger to right-wing extremism. It’s a ritual that has become a fixture at the band’s shows. “We’ve had this song in our live set for almost two years now,” reveals singer Fabian Koch. “It’s always a great feeling to stand together with the audience and take a stand against the far right.” But “Countdown To Death” isn’t just about political issues. “Mental Agony” deals with the challenges of living with mental illness. With this track, the Münster-based band advocates against the stigmatization of those affected by them. “Countdown To Death” showcases a more serious and mature side of the band, without sacrificing the energy and joy of playing that Taskforce Toxicator has always been known for. The anthemic “See You In Hell” and the space adventure “Intergalactic War” leave no doubt about that.

Like its predecessor, “Countdown To Death” features artwork by Timon Kokott. Once again, Taskforce Toxicator pays homage to the “Star Wars” saga in their visual design. Dominik explains: “These movies have been very important to many of us in the band since our early childhood. That’s why ‘Star Wars’ motifs keep coming back in our work.”

Cornelius Rambadt is once again in charge of production. The producer, who has previously worked with big names like Sodom, Bonded, and Darkness, crafts a sound for the album that strikes the perfect balance between old school and modern. For all fans of contemporary thrash metal, “Countdown To Death” is a must-have in 2026.
