In the early 1980s, London was buzzing with constellations of post-punk, new wave, and hard rock music scenes. Clubs and pubs such as The Green Gate served as stages for emerging bands, offering raw, intense, and truly communal atmospheres, especially in areas like Bethnal Green. The Green Gate was an iconic pub located in East London, exuding the authentic and intimate vibe of the small underground stages of the 1980s. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal began to lose momentum around 1983. Many bands fell by the wayside or softened their sound in search of greater commercial acceptance. At the same time, in the United States, young musicians influenced by the raw energy of the N.W.O.B.H.M. and punk began to speed up and toughen metal even further, giving rise to thrash metal. It was precisely at this moment, in 1983, that Berlyn ended its activities. It was the conclusion of an intense journey - still remembered by many as fragments of vibrant nights, like this one that took place in this East End pub.
