In the early 1980s, at the height of heavy metal’s popularity on the Iberian Peninsula, the band Sobredosis emerged in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Madrid. The group consisted of three young musicians influenced by the hard rock of the era and the NWOBHM (particularly Judas Priest and Scorpions). After their early beginnings, they gained some notoriety in 1983 by including a couple of tracks, “Alíate” and “Chico,” on the compilation album Unidos por el Rock, which allowed them to perform live and even open for renowned bands like Judas Priest and Obus, piquing the interest of Fortu Sanchez (Obus’s lead singer), who would support them throughout their journey. It was with this lineup, under the production of Fortu Sánchez, that they entered the Scorpio studio in Madrid, where they recorded and mixed their first full-length album in November 1983. On January 30, 1984, they released it as their debut album, titled “Caliente como un volcán,” on the Chapa Discos label. The album reflected the raw and direct essence of a young band bursting with energy. Although the production had technical limitations, the result was a powerful and authentic work, with a strong, unadorned sound. The songs revolved around the prevailing themes of rock at the time: rebellion, speed, and attitude.
