»The Ones I Condemn« was the fifth studio album by Canadian thrash metal pioneers Sacrifice. Released in 2009, it marked their highly anticipated comeback after a 16-year hiatus, following their 1993 »Apocalypse Inside« album.
The album was recorded at Rouge Valley Studio in Toronto between December 2008 and March 2009, with engineering and mixing by Darius Szczepaniak.
“It felt amazing to be back in the studio again recording a bunch of songs that we worked really hard on,” comments guitarist and singer Rob Urbinati today. “At that time there were some older thrash bands releasing albums and fans were disappointed. We didn’t want to fall into that category. It’s over 15 years old now and still holds up.”
Back in 2009, Sacrifice’s fifth studio album was widely hailed as a great thrash comeback, critics praised it for maintaining the band‘s signature sound and unbridled energy, while utilizing high-quality contemporary production.
Rob Urbinati explains: “»The Ones I Condemn« was equally as vicious as any of our older stuff. We lost no aggression, and we recorded it the same way we always did-we recorded it as if we were recording to tape. This album means a lot to us, we hadn’t been in a studio for so long and to pull this off was a huge accomplishment for us. People that were already Sacrifice fans were fully behind it and newer thrash fans also took notice and checked out our older stuff.”
The current re-issue of »The Ones I Condemn« on High Roller Records comes as a full dynamic re-master from the original mix, offering the ultimate sound quality for this legendary album.

»The Ones I Condemn« war das fünfte Studioalbum der kanadischen Thrash-Metal-Pioniere Sacrifice. Veröffentlicht 2009, markierte es ihr mit Spannung erwartetes Comeback nach einer 16-jährigen Pause (der Vorgänger »Apocalypse Inside« stammte von 1993).
Das Album wurde zwischen Dezember 2008 und März 2009 im Rouge Valley Studio in Toronto aufgenommen, produziert und abgemischt von Darius Szczepaniak.
„Es fühlte sich großartig an, im Studio eine Reihe von Songs aufzunehmen, an denen wir wirklich hart gearbeitet haben“, kommentiert Gitarrist und Sänger Rob Urbinati heute. „Damals gab es einige ältere Thrash-Bands, die Alben veröffentlichten, von denen die Fans enttäuscht waren. Wir wollten nicht in diese Kategorie fallen. »The Ones I Condemn« ist jetzt über 15 Jahre alt und kann noch immer mithalten.“
Im Jahr 2009 wurde Sacrifices fünftes Studioalbum weithin als großartiges Thrash-Comeback gefeiert; Kritiker lobten es dafür, den charakteristischen Sound und die ungezügelte Energie der Band konserviert zu haben und über eine hochwertige zeitgenössische Produktion zu verfügen.
Rob Urbinati erklärt: „»The Ones I Condemn« war genauso bösartig wie all unsere älteren Werke. Wir hatten keinen Deut an Aggression verloren und nahmen es genauso auf wie immer. Dieses Album bedeutet uns viel, wir waren so lange nicht mehr im Studio. Die ganze Sache bis zum Ende durchzuziehen, war eine riesige Leistung für uns. Leute, die ohnehin schon Sacrifice-Fans waren, unterstützten uns voll und ganz, und auch neuere Thrash-Fans sind auf das Album aufmerksam geworden und haben sich unsere älteren Sachen angehört.“
