There are albums that merely exist, and then there are albums that feel like monuments rising from scorched earth. Thronehammer's fourth full-length "Slay | Kill | Erase" is very much the latter — a colossal, 74-minute behemoth that refuses to be contained by the narrow confines of genre. The German-British outfit, formed in 2012 by Stuart West, has always operated in the shadowy borderlands where epic doom meets something far more expansive, but here they've pushed into entirely new territory.

From the crushing opener that shares the album's title, it's clear this is no ordinary doom record. Katharina Gillham's commanding vocals soar over a landscape of tectonic riffs, while the three-guitar attack of West, Tobias Utz and Daniel Ringl weaves a tapestry of melancholic melodies, razor-sharp leads and dissonant textures that keep you on edge. The rhythm section — Markus Ströhlein on drums and Uwe "Void" on bass — provides an unshakeable foundation, anchoring even the most atmospheric passages in sheer weight. And then there's Max Hemmann (Motorowl) adding guest vocals, lending an extra dimension to an already massive sound.

What truly sets "Slay | Kill | Erase" apart is how seamlessly it blends crushing heaviness with moments of breathtaking beauty. Tracks like "To Never Return" and "Destroyer Ov Light" stretch out into post-rock influenced soundscapes without losing an ounce of intensity, while "Blade to the Heart" and "Dethroned" deliver the kind of gut-punching doom fans have come to expect. Mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, the production is massive yet clear, allowing every detail to breathe. This is a band that has outgrown the doom label — and honestly, that's exactly the point.
