Strapping Young Lad were a Canadian extreme/industrial metal band founded by Devin Townsend in 1994, first as a solo project and later developed into a full band. Their sound blended thrash, death, groove metal and industrial into a brutal, chaotic and futuristic assault, marked by dense production, crushing rhythms and an almost uncontrollable intensity. Albums such as City, SYL and Alien became cult releases within modern extreme metal. The band disbanded in 2007, leaving a strong legacy for fans of aggressive, technical, disturbing and visionary metal.
