When it comes to to the importance of ground breaking Rock and Metal acts, Canada has always been criminally underrated (forever doomed to be overshadowed by its mighty neighbour in the south). Just think of Anvil, the true originators of Speed Metal, or Rush, the blueprint of Progressive Metal for five decades now. Bands form the land of hockey never received the kudos they deserved …
And you might as well add Slaughter from Toronto in Ontario to this list ... The band was formed in 1984. Three years later, in 1987, Dave Hewson (vocals, guitar), Terry Sadler (vocals, bass) and Ron Summer (drums) recorded the debut album “Strappado”. “Strappado” is nowadays hailed as a ground breaking record of raw Thrash Metal sowing the seeds for the first wave of true Amercian Death Metal. Songs like the lightning fast opener “Strappado”, the almost punky “F.O.D. (Fuck of Death)” or no-holds barred “Nocturnal Hell” make this one hell of a record.
Slaughter eventually broke up because they were fed up with the workings of the music industry (which speaks volumes of their integrity). Dave Hewson formed a new band called Strappado.
In 1994, Slaughter had a very short-lived comeback covering Celtic Frost's “Dethroned Emperor” and then disappeared once more.
