"A Night at the Opera," named after a Marx Brothers film, is now regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. On this album, Queen combined the strengths of their two previous albums into the ultimate blend, which is extraordinary on every level—musically, artistically, and lyrically. The most expensive album ever produced at the time featured rock, opera, heavy metal, romantic songs, ballads, pop, science fiction folk, music hall, jazz, and even a national anthem. The album also includes what is arguably the most famous rock song ever written.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” remained at the top of the charts for 14 weeks, was voted Song of the Millennium, was the only song to top the Christmas charts twice, and sold more than a million copies with each of its two different releases. Queen also recorded the first official promotional tape for “Bohemian Rhapsody” because they were unable to appear on Top of the Pops due to a tour. Thus, this video paved the way for MTV and VH1.
