Titled Disgusting Blasphemies Against God, this album fully cements the band's legendary status within the global black metal underground. As the original purveyors of bleeding-raw barbarity and mesmerizing filth, the band took the opportunity to completely redefine what it means to create unholy, repulsive sonic art. While some listeners found the production on their 2007 debut to be a bit too clean, this sophomore effort completely reverses course by leaning into a foul, incredibly unclean form of audio desecration. Across ten devastating rituals, the collective delivers a masterclass in unrepentant, primitive black metal. The defining characteristic of this record is the overwhelming, cavernous bass presence that acts as the primary driving force for the compositions. Instead of burying the low end in the traditional European fashion, PROFANATICA places a massive, seismic rumble right at the center of the mix. This decision grants tracks like "Christ's Precious Blood Poisoned" an almost physical weight, dragging the listener into a thick molasses of heavy distortion. John Gelso pairs this earth-shaking low end with remarkably primitive, minimalist guitar riffs that completely forgo any sense of traditional melody or technical wizardry in favor of pure, striking ferocity. The pacing of the record further enhances its terrifyingly dark atmosphere, shifting seamlessly between unyielding blast beats and crushing, doom-laden crawls. In the monstrous track "Covered in Black Shit," the band even incorporates eerie doom bell samples and strange ambient noises.
