By the late 1980s, thrash metal had established itself in Germany and even played a leading role on the global stage. Even at that time, it wasn’t enough for some bands to simply play fast and aggressive. Thrash metal often became more complex and technical. In the US, Watchtower pushed these boundaries, while in Germany, several bands on the Aaarrg Records label followed suit (Mekong Delta, Target). While other acts initially played straight thrash and only later incorporated progressive elements (Holy Moses, Deathrow, Destruction), Hamburg’s MEGACE combined technical thrash and progressive elements right from their formation in 1988. With Melanie Bock on vocals, the band had a special ace up their sleeve – she could do both: aggressive thrash shouting and melodic singing. This immediately set MEGACE apart and earned them opportunities they were quick to seize. After several demo tapes, their debut album “Human Errors” was released to widespread critical acclaim and still enjoys a global fanbase today (reissue on CD and LP via Golden Core, 2025). Their second album “Inner War” was released in 1999 through the small label Angular (Sylvan, Vanishing Point, Lana Lane). Just as popular as the albums are the band’s first three demo tapes, which originally circulated on cassette: The Sign Of The Ape, This Is The News, and Pseudo Identity. After their second album, a lesser-known tape titled After Death followed – now available here for the first time. All material has been painstakingly restored and (re)mastered over several months, now matching the sound quality of the two albums. The CD version includes additional previously unreleased recordings. Packed with liner notes, rare photos, and illustrations, this is the ultimate edition fans have waited years for. Side A 1.
