A new name rises from the underground: Hunger. Featuring Dizzy D. on vocals, Jara Solís and Rudolf V. on guitars and Vick Rodríguez on bass – with session drummer Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator, Bonfire, Enforcer) stepping in behind the kit on this release – this band comes armed with a six-track EP rooted in classic heavy/speed metal.
Built on a haunted, cursed vibe and inspired by the mid-’80s sound, Hunger blends sharp, memorable riffing with explosive, aggressive vocals. It’s heavy/speed metal with identity – made by underground maniacs for underground maniacs.
The EP begins with a one-minute instrumental: mid-tempo riffing, dive-bombs, and a steady build toward full-on speed metal. What follows is full on sonic assault packed with energy and recognition value. One of the songs lets loose with the chant: “Hunger, feed the beast! Hunger, craving flesh!” – a hook made for shouting back live.
Each song has something different to offer. Ruler of the Wolves kicks off with a neoclassical-tinged riff and a standout lead melody that recurs throughout the song. Sabotage goes all in on fast-paced speed metal, with guest vocals from Aitor Navarro (ex-Hitten) and layered harmonies that give it a distinct melodic edge, echoing the likes of Muro or EVO. The closer, Beware the Demons, is a cover version of an obscure Stormwitch song that was never recorded in the studio, just performed live. It starts off slow and ominous, building into heavy, NWOBHM-flavored riffing and a chorus you can sing along to instantly.
If you’re into gritty, honest heavy/speed metal with sharp vocals and memorable riffs – think Motörhead, Warlock, Atlain, MP, Vectom, Muro, Tigres, EVO or Running Wild – this EP has something for you.
