On their new album, "A Dramatic Turn Of Events," Dream Theater proves once again that their unprecedented musical journey, which began two and a half decades ago and has since produced a diverse range of unique music, established progressive metal worldwide, and inspired an incredibly devoted fan base, is far from over.
However, the development of the album was overshadowed by the split with longtime collaborator Mike Portnoy. The search for a new drummer was documented, titled "The Spirit Carries On," and caused a huge stir online. It was therefore rightly included on the DVD of the special edition. When the secret of the new drummer was finally revealed in the final episode of the documentary (Mike Mangini will now be on drums for Dream Theater), he was overjoyed:
"I wake up most mornings thinking about my personal playing growth and Dream Theater. I have a smile and it's amazing - what a great day I have when I acknowledge what is happening to me. How did I end up here? Whoa!"
