Fresh off their exhumation from the Canadian underground, CRYPTOPSY officially came writhing and screaming into the world of extreme metal with their instant classic debut in 1994.
While only their first crack at a full-length, ‘Blasphemy Made Flesh’ already bore the marks of the most vile band in death metal. “Defenestration” slits the album wide open at the command of drummer Flo Mounier, who blasts and beats his kit with unhinged precision. Adding lead axe man Jon Levasseur sharpened the thrashing riffs and hellacious, technical solo of soon-to-be setlist staple “Open Face Surgery”. But despite the professional studio sound, somehow inimitable vocalist Lord Worm had grown even more depraved since their ungentle demos. Beneath the brutal grooves hammered into “Mutant Christ”, he barks, slobbers and pants like the three-headed hound of hell. “You made me in your image / I deformed yours into mine”.
