The final, frenzied masterpiece from Santa Monica's crossover pioneers, featuring technical speed-core that bridges the gap between 80s HC punk and early grindcore.
Originally released in 1988, Stream of Consciousness is the third and final studio album from the original lineup of Cryptic Slaughter. While their previous albums (Convicted, Money Talks) established them as one of the fastest bands on the West Coast, Stream pushes the boundaries of that sound further. Despite being recorded during a time of band turbulence, it offers a raw, bass-heavy, and "manic" sound that is widely considered an underrated, essential slab of 80s extreme music.
Formed in Santa Monica in 1984, Cryptic Slaughter defined the "thrashcore" sound before it had a name. Stream of Consciousness was recorded at Cell Block Studio and represents a, raw, unapologetic, and technically advanced take on the crossover genre that influenced decades of extreme metal to follow.
